THE BACKSTORY
Fresh Eyes Educational Consultancy, a division of the Institute for Real-World Teaching & Learning (IRWTL), was founded on the belief that people and groups who are marginalized deserve to experience belonging where they learn and work. Anthea, our founder, decided to branch out into consultancy after deep reflection on her own experiences with isolation and exclusion in school and work—and, from listening to, observing, and having conversations with individuals who had similar experiences. Aside from the reflections and testimonies revealing acts that ranged from unconscious microaggressions to blatant and egregious, what stood out to her was the fact that most people on the receiving end did not walk away from those experiences without some level of harm. This is what Fresh Eyes Educational Consultancy seeks to change.
